KERHONKSON, NY · RONDOUT VALLEY

WYNAAR GEODE

A geode is a plain stone outside and crystal within. This house is the same: a dark Scandinavian-style cabin on 4.5 wooded acres, and inside, a bright room of white walls, concrete, and glass.

A path at the back of the yard opens onto the rail trail along the Rondout Creek. Kerhonkson's coffee and dinner are a fifteen-minute walk up the road, Minnewaska is six minutes by car, and the fire pit is waiting when you get back. The quiet of the woods, without driving for a latte.

The living room

An oversized sofa, layered throws, and light from a two-story wall of glass. Kitchen, dining, and living share one open room, so no one is left out of the conversation. The Frame TV shows art by day and films by night.

The bedrooms

Two on the main floor, each with its own door to the yard and the forest. High-thread-count linen and two robes in each. Upstairs, a loft with two single sleeper pull-outs and a TV, and a kids' room with a bunk bed.

Kitchen and table

Everything to cook a real meal, with a Breville espresso machine that grinds its own beans, a steam wand for the milk, and pantry basics for the morning. The table is ninety inches long and seats eight, for dinner and the games after.

The baths

A soaking tub beside a window in the trees, private to the primary bedroom. A walk-in shower with the same window, for an outdoor-shower feel.

Every season

Radiant floor heat for winter, four ductless wall units, each with its own remote, for summer, and high-end appliances throughout.
